Need a break from holiday stress?

Feeling tense from driving in icy conditions?   On Saturday, December 13 you can receive a Bowen Therapy session in exchange for a $40 donation to the Food Bank.

This is the season when many of us take a vacation from healthy eating habits to enjoy big meals and delicious treats.  However, many Saskatonians struggle to access safe and nutritious food throughout the year.  The Saskatoon Food Bank and Learning Centre is working diligently to provide a secure food source and eliminate poverty.  They rely heavily on community support and donations.

Food Bank Donations

The Tree of Plenty campaign  is the Food Bank’s largest fundraiser and generates approximately one third of their annual operating budget.  PotashCorp is matching all monetary donations this year, which means your $40 donation will be doubled to an $80 donation for the Food Bank.

What is Bowen Therapy?

Bowen therapy is a great way to help you relax and unwind.   During a 45-60 minute session, specific muscle manipulations signal the nervous system and surrounding tissue to relax, detoxify and re-align.  Bowen is a very gentle therapy that helps shift clients from “fight or flight” into a state of “rest, digest, and heal” – just what everyone needs to recuperate from shopping, driving, decorating, cleaning, and cooking.

What can I expect from a treatment?

Several rolling type movements or “Bowen moves” are performed, followed by a 2-5 minute break.  During this time, the therapist leaves the room so that the client can relax and the moves are integrated into the body.  The therapist then returns to the room to perform the next set of Bowen moves, and the process repeats as the major muscle groups are treated.

Most people sink into a very relaxed state during the treatment, some fall asleep, and some will notice sensations in their body such as warmth, tingling or a mild muscle twitch.  Following the treatment, it is recommended to drink lots of water to help flush metabolites out of the tissue and to avoid aggravating activities, heavy exercise, and application of heat or cold.  It is common to feel slightly sore for 1-2 days following the treatment, similar to what happens after stiff muscles are massaged.

Appointments are available from 9 am to 2:30 pm and can be made by contacting our front desk at 306-373-5209.

Tax deductible donations will be collected in the form of cash or cheque payable to the Saskatoon Food Bank.  In addition, we are happy to collect any food donations and deliver them to the collection centre.
